The following conditions can cause increased wear:

  • High processing temperatures (reduction of high-temperature strength)
  • High melt pressures in conjunction with high temperatures
  • Fillers and/or reinforcing additives in resin formulation
  • High friction - causing pitting and pock marking
  • Corrosion by flame-retardant additives
  • High throughputs causing high forces on the cylinder and screw.
